WIU Spring Commencement Will Be Online

Because of the pandemic, Western Illinois University will not be able to hold a traditional in-person commencement ceremony in the spring. Instead, after consulting with students, it will hold an online ceremony and what it calls a "personal experience."

Graduates can have their photos taken by a university photographer for inclusion in the online event. Graduates can wear caps and gowns, and invite up to four family members, for their photographs. And it'll be available for both the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses.

Photos will be taken during the weeks of March 24th through April 18th, including sessions during the day, at night, and on weekends.

Western's Spring 2021 Commencement Ceremony will air at 10 a.m. May 15 on WIU's YouTube channel and Facebook page.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
