The new superintendent of the Davenport schools is not really very "new." Monday night, the board of education chose T.J. Schneckloth to lead the district.
Last fall the Iowa State Board of Education appointed him interim superintendent, after it took control of the district following its decision that district leaders were not making changes quickly enough - to fix its finances and provide equal discipline and educational opportunities for African American Students.
Schneckloth previously served as interim superintendent after Art Tate left and until Robert Kobylski was hired. Kobylski retired last month.
In a press release Tuesday addressed to families in the district, the board says "he has taken on this challenge previously and is energized, committed, and ready to take on the role." "TJ will continue to work swiftly and diligently to complete our corrective action plan and do everything that needs to be done to have a fresh start in the District."
