Property taxes in the United Township School District will probably go up slightly next year.
On Monday, the board reviewed a proposed tax levy increase to increase funds by 2.5% compared to this year. The tax rate would drop by nearly a penny, to $1.88 per $100 assessed value.
Superintendent, Jay Morrow, says next year, the owner of a $100,000 home would pay $3.13 less under the proposed tax levy. But the district would collect an additional $260,000 since home values are expected to increase. The levy would generate about $10.6 million next year.
The UT school board is scheduled to vote on the proposed tax levy next month. Illinois requires local taxing bodies to submit proposed property tax levies by the end of December.
