Bettendorf School Board Hires Search Consultant

A consultant based in Cedar Rapids will help the Bettendorf School District search for a new superintendent. Monday night, the board of education voted to hire Ray and Associates, for 6,500 dollars.

President Adam Holland says the next step will be for board members to discuss what sort of person they'd like to hire - his or her character and qualifications.

"Things that I would like to see are demonstrated strengths in communication and leadership skills. Communication obviously that goes both internal as well as external - to be able to be a good voice in the community. "

One problem is that four of the seven seats on the Bettendorf school board will be up for election in November, and some of the current members are not running for re-election.

The search became necessary when the board decided earlier this year not to renew the contract of current Superintendent Mike Raso when it expires next spring.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
