Augustana Remembers Stan Furlong

from his own FB page

A long-time employee of Augustana College has died. 69 year old Stan Furlong died Friday at his home in Rock Island.

He was born in Moline and graduated from Alleman High School. Then served four years in the Navy, including one year as a medical corpsman on a ship off the coast of Vietnam. Furlong worked for 20 years at Oscar Mayer in Davenport, then worked in Augustana's print and copy center until his retirement last year.

He was also a member of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society for over 25 years, including serving on its board.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 2nd, from 11 am to 1 pm, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, with burial at the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island.

Memorials can be made to the Mississippi Valley Blues Society.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
