New enrollment data from Western Illinois University shows nearly 700 students attend classes this semester at the Quad Cities campus. That's a 15% drop compared to last spring.
Enrollment at the Macomb campus this semester totals 5,600, a decline of almost 14% compared with a year ago.

Total enrollment at Western's Macomb and Moline campuses this spring is 6,340, also down 14% year over year.
Ten years ago, total WIU enrollment was about 11,088 students. (Those figures do not include extenstion and independent study courses.)
The Peoria Journal Star reports freshman and sophomore enrollment in Macomb this semester is down 20% from the previous year.
While in the Quad Cities, it's down an average of 3%.
Graduate student enrollment in Macomb is down 16%, and in Moline it's down 20%.
The school did see increases in extension and independent study courses, 25% in Macomb and 32% in the Quad Cities.
