Davenport Board to Choose Interim Superintendent

Following the surprise announcement on Friday that Superintendent Art Tate will resign, the Davenport school board will hold a special meeting Tuesday. And the only item on the agenda is the appointment of an interim superintendent.

The board is scheduled to meet at 4:30 pm.

Doctor Tate was originally scheduled to retire next June, and the board had begun the process of picking a replacement - hiring a consultant, setting up a series of public meetings for local residents to submit suggestions, and also asking people to fill out a survey on the district's website.

No announcement was made about any possible changes in the search process.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
