BHC Interviews First Finalist for President

Black Hawk College

Black Hawk College will host the first of four finalists for president Monday and Tuesday. Doctor Rick Pearce will visit the East and Quad Cities campuses for tours, interviews, and community meetings.

Pearce is currently Vice President for Learning and Student Success at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois.

He'll spend Monday at the East Campus near Kewanee, including separate meetings with faculty, students, and support staff, plus local residents and members of the East Campus Foundation. Pearce will participate in similar events Tuesday at the Quad Cities campus in Moline, ending with a private interview with the board of trustees.

Following him on Wednesday and Thursday will be Doctor Ann Valentine, Executive Dean of Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City.

The other two finalists will spend two days each at Black Hawk College later this month. And one of the four will succeed Bettie Truitt who retired in December. John Erwin is now serving as interim president.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
