Franklin Elementary School will be remodeled. At Monday night's meeting, the Moline school board approved a $4.5 million contract with Russell Construction, which was the low bidder.
The cost of the project will be split between the insurance company and the district. The district has a budget of $2.5 million and Hanover Insurance is expected to pay the rest.
The school was severely damaged during a fire six months ago. Now a crew has gutted the building, including mechanical and electrical systems. And when the work is done, for the first time, Franklin Elementary will have air conditioning.
