Even though Augustana College has changed a great deal since he was a student, the role of trustees has not. That's according to John Murabito, the incoming chair of the board of trustees.
Since his graduation in 1980, Murabito says the college has a lot more to offer in technology and facilities, but he and the trustees have basically the same responsibility.
"Really what we're trying to do is the best we can, with the faculty and the administration, to make sure we provide a place and community here that turns out well-educated, well-adjusted adults with great character and integrity, and ready to succeed in whatever their next chapter is."
Now beginning his 5th year on the board, he says the board's main upcoming challenges include insuring the financial strength of Augustana College, and making sure students are well-prepared for "a more complicated world."
"I think we want to continue to focus to insure we have a diverse community, an inclusive community, that is very welcoming to all students and faculty, and that we're able to take advantage of difference."
Prior to Thursday's board of trustees meeting, Murabito held informal meetings with staff and students - and answered questions about the college's endowment and how it's invested, the role of the board of trustees, and the role of fraternities and sororities on campus.
