Residents of two school districts in Henry County will decide in November if they should consolidate. Wednesday the state school superintendent approved holding a referendum for the Kewanee and Wethersfield districts.
Angie Zarvell, regional superintendent for Bureau, Henry, and Stark counties, held a hearing last month on a petition from a group called The Committee of Ten. She then forwarded her recommendation to Springfield to hold a referendum.
The Committee of Ten proposes electing a new school board next spring, and opening the new district next summer.
The question on the November ballot will also include a proposed timeline for consolidation and future tax rates.
