Residents of the Moline School District may have to pay a little bit more next year. Monday night, the board of education gave its preliminary approval to a new tax levy.
Chief Financial Officer, Dave McDermott, is proposing a 42 million dollar tax levy, that's nearly 1 1/2 per cent higher than this year. Much of the increase will go to the transportation fund.
McDermott says, if approved, the new levy would raise the property tax rate by about 4 cents, or eight-tenths of one per cent.
And for the owner of a 100,000 dollar home, that'll mean an increase for the Moline schools of 13 dollars and 75 cents per year.
The tentative levy will be on display for a month, with final approval by the board of education at its December 14th meeting.
