College leaders from across Illinois will once again plead for help from the state. A group, including the president of Carl Sandburg College, Lori Sundberg, will take their case to the Illinois House during its session on Tuesday.
Doctor Sundberg will be joined by Western Illinois University president Jack Thomas, and presidents of the University of Illinois, Chicago State, and a community college, plus students who are receiving help from the state's Monetary Award Program, or MAP.
Because of the budget impasse between the General Assembly and governor, colleges have not received any money from the state since the new fiscal year started in July, and MAP scholarships may not be funded starting in January.
