Garfield School Open House

Moline School District

Friends and former students of Garfield School in Moline are invited to visit one last time. Thursday night the school will host an open house two weeks before it closes for good.

Principal Todd Williams says Garfield opened in 1902, and through the years as many as 500 students have filled the 12 classrooms.
Garfield now has 380 students in kindergarten through 5th grades, and a staff of 25, including 16 teachers. And many of the students and staff will transfer to Hamilton School in the fall - it's been closed this year for a major expansion and modernization that should be completed soon.

Williams says trophies, plaques, and pictures will be available during the open house to past participants and coaches of the various Dad's Club teams.
The last day of classes at Garfield will be June 5th, and he and the staff will leave for the last time the following week.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
