New Degree Program at BHC

Black Hawk College

Construction could start soon on a new building for a new degree program at Black Hawk College. If the board of trustees awards a contract tonight, then next year the east campus in Kewanee will begin offering an associates degree in Veterinary Technology.

East campus vice president, Chanda Dowell, says there'll be room for up to 60 students in the two-year program.

Dowell says the new, 7.2 million dollar vet tech center will include classrooms, an auditorium, labs, and a teaching hospital.

Black Hawk will offer an introductory course this fall, leading up to the fall of next year (2016) when construction should be completed and the college can begin offering the full, new curriculum.
She says it's currently awaiting approval by the Illinois Community College Board.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
