Twenty teachers in the Rock Island schools will probably get pink slips with their next paychecks. Tonight, the school board is set to vote on whether to renew the contracts of teachers who aren't tenured, or worked only part of the school year or part-time.
Holly Sparkman, district spokeswoman, says every spring teachers whose contracts will not be renewed must be notified 60 days before the end of the school year.
She says usually, the Rock Island School District is able to re-hire some of these teachers.
Also tonight, the board of education will vote on granting tenure to 12 teachers and administrators and approve new contracts for 81 others.
