One bid has been received for a Moline elementary school, and the board of education will consider it later this month.
Tuesday was the deadline to submit bids for Garfield School on 25th Avenue, with a minimum price of 50,000 dollars. And chief financial officer Dave McDermott says Gorman and Company offered 75,000 dollars.
Gorman is a development company, based in Madison, with projects in several states. In Moline, it's converted the old Moline High School, on 16th Street overlooking downtown, into apartments, and built the Enterprise Lofts at the corner of 19th Street and River Drive.
Garfield School was built in 1901, covers 37,000 square feet, and the property includes 2.3 acres. It's scheduled to close at the end of this school year.
McDermott will recommend acceptance of the bid when the Moline school board meets on February 23rd.
