Instead of a ribbon, Black Hawk College will cut some steel. Thursday, the college will celebrate the opening of its new Welding and Skilled Trades Center in Kewanee.
Chanda Dowell, East Campus Vice President, says college officials will use a torch to cut through a six-foot steel bow, signifying the opening of the new center. The four-million-dollar building has new classrooms and labs, including a "virtual lab" for beginners and a "flex lab" for students to work on real-life projects.
Dowell says Black Hawk offers a twenty-five credit hour certificate for gas metal welding and shielded metal welding. And, students can use the new facility and equipment starting next week.
The ceremony and open house for Black Hawk College's Welding and Skilled Trades Center begins at 4 pm tomorrow (thurs), in Kewanee.
