Autism Center Opens in the QC

New help is available in the Quad Cities for children with special needs. An organization called The Homestead has opened an autism center, in Davenport.
The Homestead CEO Steve Muller says the center on Utica Ridge Road opened in July and now serves about a dozen children.

The Homestead already operates several other autism centers in Cedar Rapids and the Des Moines area. The children generally attend for 2 and a half hours a day, 5 days a week, for a one on one treatment.
Muller says children with autism are generally diagnosed at age 2. The Homestead program works with children up through the age of 9 or 10 and then helps families find additional services.
Muller says the Quad Cities center has room for more children and more staff.
