Despite Strike Some Deere Benefits Will Continue

Even though they're still on strike, John Deere will continue to provide health care benefits for its hourly workers.

That was the announcement Friday afternoon one week after the walkout began, and while negotiations continue with the UAW.

In addition, the company says workers who earned incentives before the strike from the Continuous Improvement Pay Plan, will receive them as scheduled.

Deere says, "We are taking these steps to demonstrate our commitment to doing what’s right by our employees and focusing on all that we can achieve together."

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
