Cullen Hired to be Downtown Rock Island Director

Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce

A leader for the effort to re-vitalize downtown Rock Island has been hired. The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce has chosen Jack Cullen to be Downtown Rock Island Director.

In January, the city and chamber signed a two-year agreement, similar to downtown management agreements the chamber already has with Davenport and Bettendorf.

Cullen is currently the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Chamber, and will officially begin his new job April 1st. He joined the organization in 2018 to serve as Q-2030 Project Manager, and prior to that, he was a reporter for the Quad-City Times. Cullen is also a graduate of Augustana College.

His job will be to work with downtown business and property owners, and the city, to promote future development, including how to pay for it, and how money from the tax increment financing district should be used.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
