Public Hearings for Water Rate Hike Request

Customers of the Iowa-American Water Company can tell state officials what they think about a possible rate increase. Thursday night in Clinton, the Iowa Utilities Board will host the first of three customer comment hearings.

In August the company announced a request for a nine per cent increase in rates, that would affect more than 200,000 people in Clinton and the Iowa Quad Cities.

Thursday night's hearing begins at 5:30 at the Wild Rose Casino. A second meeting will be held in Davenport next Wednesday (10/21) at the River Center, with a third meeting to be held virtually on October 28th.

Attendees at the in-person hearings in Clinton and Davenport must wear masks and keep a safe distance between themselves and others. The utililities board is also accepting written comments online.

Iowa-American says the increase will help pay for millions of dollars worth of water system improvements - since the last rate request in 2016, and for proposed spending during the next two years.

The board has up to ten months to make a decision.
