Traffic at the Quad City International Airport fell slightly between July and August as the summer travel season ended. But it's still down sharply from the same month a year ago before the pandemic.
During August, a total of 20,700 people traveled through the airport, down six per cent from July, and it's down 66 per cent from last year.
Delta and United suffered the biggest yearly declines in passengers - down 80 and 76 per cent, but traffic also dropped by about 50 per cent each for Allegiant and American.
Airport Executive Director Ben Leischner says the end of summer, back to school season is usually one of the slowest times of the year. Leisure travel is benefiting from low fares and flexible cancellation policies offered by the airlines, but recovery in business travel is very slow.
The Quad City Airport recently conducted a passenger survey, and received high marks for cleanliness and safety.
