New Leader for Deere

Deere and Company

A new leader will soon take over at John Deere. Thursday the company announced directors have chosen John May to become Chief Executive Officer in November.

He has served as President and Chief Operating Officer since last April.

The current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sam Allen, will remain as Chairman of the board of directors.

The 50 year old May joined the company in 1997, and became part of the senior management team in 2012, as President, Agricultural Solutions and Chief Information Officer. Then last year he was named President of the Worldwide Agriculture and Turf Division.

Early in his career, he served as factory manager at the Dubuque Works.

When he takes over in November, May will become only the 10th chief executive in Deere's 182 year history.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
