Arconic Steelworkers Talks Resume

Talks are scheduled to resume this week between Arconic and the United Steelworkers Union, afffecting about 1,900 hourly workers at the plant in Riverdale.

A spokesman for Local 105 says the negotiators were expected to meet either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning in Pittsburgh, and meet through the end of this week.

The local held a send-off on Friday for President Brad Greve and Staff Representative Jeff Hartford, who are members of the union's national negotiation team.

Arconic and the Steelworkers Union began talks on a national contract in late April, and continued through May 15th, the official expiration date for their latest contract. After agreeing to an extension, they recessed until this week.

The talks affect a total of 3,300 union members - in the Quad Cities and three other Arconic locations - in New York, Indiana, and Tennessee. Last month, workers approved a strike authorization for their leaders.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
