Dressbarn Will Close All Stores

Dressbarn

Dressbarn, the women's clothing chain that's been around for nearly 60 years, is closing all 650 of its stores. And that includes 10 in Iowa and 27 in Illinois.

The company's chief financial officer says Dressbarn has not been operating at an ``acceptable level of profitability in today's retail environment.`` Its owner, Ascena Retail Group, says it wants to focus on its more profitable brands. Ascena also owns Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant and other clothing stores.

Illinois stores are located in Peoria, Rockford, and Quincy, while the Iowa locations are in Davenport - in the North Ridge Shopping Center on East 53rd Street, plus Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Dubuque, Waterloo, and Williamsburg.

The company did not say when Dressbarn will close all of its stores. It now employs about 6,800 people.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
