Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos has helped organize a new "interest group" in the US House. Wednesday she announced the formation of the Air Cargo Caucus, a bi-partisan group of House members with large air cargo operations in their home districts.
She will be the co-chair, along with Congressman Paul Mitchell from Michigan.
Her office says their goal is to represent the airports and boost the economies where they're located. One is in Rockford in Bustos' 17th District - officially known as the Chicago Rockford International Airport, in 2017 it moved nearly 1.4 billion pounds of cargo.
In contrast, air freight unloaded at the Quad City Airport last year was only about 300,000 pounds.
