Revenue and Earnings Fell for Lee Enterprises

Revenue and profits fell for Lee Enterprises during the second quarter. Thursday the newspaper company based in Davenport which owns the Quad City Times and Argus and Dispatch, reported earnings of 2.5 million dollars, or 4 cents per diluted share.

That compares to 11 cents at this time a year ago.

Revenue for January, February, and March fell 4 per cent. And revenue from advertising dropped 7.7 per cent. However, online the company reports improvement - total digital revenue rose 3.6 per cent. And monthly visits to Lee sites, by phone, tablet, and desktop jumped 11 per cent.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
