Arconic plants in Illinois and Iowa are now the exclusive suppliers of aluminum to Toyota for its Lexus RX. The SUV is Toyota's first car made in North America to include aluminum sheet in its exterior panels. Arconic announced the deal last week.
An Arconic official says the benefits of using aluminum in vehicles include better gas mileage, improved safety, and the ability to carry or tow more passengers and cargo.
The Davenport Works in Riverdale, Iowa and Danville Operations in eastern Illinois will supply the aluminum sheet to Toyota. The factories are part of Arconic's Global Rolled Products division.
