Mills Chevrolet Moving to Davenport

Mills Chevrolet
The new site in north Davenport

After half a century in the same location in Moline, Mills Chevrolet is moving across the river to Davenport. Seven years after first considering the change, and one year after construction began, it will open in July on North Elmore Avenue, at Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Company president David Mills says after Lujack gave up its Chevrolet franchise, there were no dealers in the Iowa Quad Cities, and 3 on the Illinois side. So the company asked him to move.
Chevrolet estimates he'll sell 100 cars per month, and be able to have 600 new and used cars on the lot.

Mills' father bought the Chevrolet dealership in 1952 when it was still located in downtown Moline. It moved to the current site in 1967, on 16th Street at John Deere Road.

We were here even before JD Road opened - 50 years is a pretty good run.

He says service and collision repair will continue at the Moline site until the property is sold or some other use if found for it.

The grand opening in Davenport is set for July 8th.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
