Land Annexation for Kraft Heinz

Davenport is preparing to take the next step in its effort to save some of the jobs at the Kraft Heinz plant. Wednesday night, the city council will discuss annexing some land adjacent to the industrial park on the northwest edge of the city where the company can build a new plant.

Senior Planning Manager, Matt Flynn, says the 63 acres is just outside of the city limits, and so far there's no opposition - from the county, Eldridge, or anyone else.
To annex the land, Davenport must pass a resolution of support, and then get approval from the state.

Iowa's City Development Board must approve annexations.

Flynn says formal adoption of the resolution could come at next week's Davenport city council meeting, and then go the City Development Board for its meeting in January.

And if all goes well, Kraft Heinz could begin construction of its new plant in the spring.
