Skinner Block Lofts Completed

WVIK Staff

Another old building in Moline has a "new life" thanks to the continued popularity of living downtown. This afternoon KJMC Properties will hold a ribbon cutting for the Skinner Block Lofts.

Owner Chris Townsend says the building on River Drive now has Subway and Ducky's Former Wear on the ground floor. And he and his partner have converted the upper levels into 12 units, with one, two, and three bedrooms.
Eight have been leased so far.
Even though it will only last for six more years, Moline's downtown tax increment financing district is a key part of the project.

It helped get the bank interested in backing the project.

Townsend says the Skinner Block along River Drive was built in 1896, and in 1905 the annex was added - it now includes Bad Boys Pizza and the Dead Poets coffeee shop. He and his partner plan to renovate that building next.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
