Downtown Moline Road Project Ending

A traffic detour in a busy part of downtown Moline will end Friday. The Illinois Department of Transportation says River Drive at I-74 will re-open.

DOT engineer, John Wegmeyer, says River Drive will open Friday afternoon, along with the River Drive on-ramp to the Iowa-bound lanes of the bridge.
However, the exit ramp from I-74 to River Drive will NOT open until Friday night.
Work on the 7 million dollar project began last September, and blocked River Drive from 19th to 23rd Street.

Wegmeyer says this is the first project in downtown Moline preparing for a new I-74 bridge across the Mississippi River. The contractor removed the old pavement and put in new water, storm-water, and sewer lines, then raised the level of the street.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
