Work Resumes on Centennial Bridge

WVIK Staff

Work is resuming today to clean and repair the Centennial Bridge. The Illinois Department of Transportation says the work will take several months, and delays are possible but at least one lane in each direction will open at all times.

Interstate Maintenance has closed one lane on the northbound side of the bridge between Rock Island and Davenport so it can clean the northbound half of the structure. The washing will be completed this week.

Then next Monday, June 1st, traffic will be switched to the northbound half of the bridge with one lane in each direction and the southbound half of the bridge will be closed. General Constructors will resume making structural repairs.
The work to complete the $3.3 million contract will continue for several months.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
