One of the shorter routes on Saturday for TOMRV

Hundreds of bike riders will tour eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois this weekend. The Quad Cities Bicycle Club will host the annual "Tour of the Mississippi River Valley," or TOMRV (tom-rahv) on Saturday and Sunday.

Starting in downtown Bettendorf at the Isle Casino and Hotel, riders will have three routes to choose from each day - a 100 mile route for advanced riders and two shorter routes of 65 to 80 miles for other riders. The routes all start and end at the Isle.

Registration is Friday, and riders will start TOMRV Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 am.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
