Moline Foundation Spring Grants

Non-profits in the Quad Cities will get some welcome help, thanks to the Moline Foundation. On Tuesday it announced this year's Spring Grant Awards, 42 grants adding up to 285,000 dollars.

And for the first time ever, because of the pandemic, it accepted applications to pay for operations in addition to the traditional areas of capital expenses and special programs.

Grants ranged from 1,000 dollars for children's summer literacy programs, up to 25,000 dollars to provide housing for the homeless.

WVIK, Quad Cities NPR, will receive 10,000 dollars for operational support during the pandemic.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
