Q2030 Grants Awarded

Nearly 40 non-profit organizations will receive some extra help, thanks to the Quad Cities Community Foundation. Friday it announced grants totaling 75,000 dollars.

Recipients range from Tapestry Farms which helps refugees who've fled their home countries due to violence or persecution, to the King Center, MidCoast Fine Arts, and Transitions Mental Health Services.

The money is in recognition of the Chamber of Commerce's Q-20-30 Regional Action plan - its goal is to make this region "cool, creative, connected, and prosperous."

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
