Scott County Jail inmates are helping local children have a merry Christmas. On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Sheriff's Department and several inmates brought bicycles to Friendly House in Davenport. It's the 13th year in a row children have received bikes from the jail's bike program.
Jodi Stock, Family and Senior Service Supervisor from Friendly House, says this year 25 kids received a bike.
"People have signed their children up beforehand, so these kids each have a bike that has been refurbished for them. The inmates and Sheriff's Department come and give the bikes to the children."
The Scott County Jail inmates fix up lost or donated bicycles, and bike parts, for the program.
Stock says it's exciting for the children to get new bikes to ride home, and for the inmates to see the happy kids.
