An international consulting firm is helping Visit Quad Cities put together a long-range plan to promote tourism. Tuesday Resonance Consultancy, based in Vancouver and New York, led a workshop for community leaders to talk about this area's strengths and weaknesses.

Resonance President Chris Fair says during the past several months they surveyed community leaders, local residents, and visitors. And the visitors gave the Quad Cities high marks in several areas.

"Restaurants being one of them. Breweries were also rated as excellent so that's something you guys have a key strength in. And there are things like nature, parks, outdoor activities, arts and culture - there's a lot of great strengths here."

And local residents mostly agreed on these strengths.

Fair says another strength is how the different cities and counties work together, something he thinks will help a lot in the future.

"For example if we want to talk about micro-mobility and your new bridge - it's got a bike lane - well what does that bike lane connect to on each side ? How does that work together as a system to create one cohesive experience for both visitors and local residents."

Based on these surveys and Tuesday’s workshop, Resonance will create a Tourism Master Plan, and it should be completed sometime early next year.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
