Season Over for Channel Cat

The Channel Cat Water Taxi is all done for the season. Because of cold weather, Metro Link decided to cancel the final weekend.

Along with ending early, the season started one month late thanks to the historic flooding by the Mississippi River in the spring. Even so, the Channel Cat averaged 2,400 passengers per week.

It's now scheduled to resume service during Memorial Day weekend, next spring.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
