Rock Island Library Plan Includes 30/31 Branch Closure

One of the Rock Island Library's three locations will close at the end of the year. This week, the library will host three meetings about its strategic plan. Last year, the library board got feedback from patrons during a series of "Coffee and Conversation" meetings. Then last fall, it approved the plan which will be used through 2022.

Director Angela Campbell says the strategic plan includes closing Rock Island's 30/31 branch library, mainly because it's too small.

Other projects in the Rock Island Library's strategic plan include what Campbell called "interim cosmetic improvements" at the Main branch downtown.

The Rock Island Library board has also been working on a long term facilities plan. Board members are still considering a proposal to buy the Tri-City Jewish Center. But Campbell says "the money just isn't there."

The first meeting will be held to discuss the Rock Island Library's strategic plan will be held tonight at 6:00 at the main, downtown location. The other two will be held Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. at the 30/31 branch and Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at the Southwest branch.
