Thanks to workers at a Quad Cities factory, hundreds of families will eat well during the holidays. Thursday night employees of the Arconic plant in Riverdale will pack 600 food baskets, and then deliver them on Friday.
The Arconic Employees Christmas Basket campaign started in 1950, and each year they raise thousands of dollars through contributions, fund-raisers, and recycling beverage cans. Recipients are nominated by workers and chosen by an employee committee.
Usually the 100 to 150 people packing the baskets need less than an hour to complete the project. And it's a joint effort of the company, and the steelworkers and electrical workers unions.
