Honoring Veterans in the QC

City of Davenport
the route for this year's parade in Davenport

Veterans Day Activities in our area:

- the annual Hero Street Monument Veterans Day program in Silvis will be held on Saturday at 10 am. And because of the forecast for bad weather, it's been moved to George O. Barr Elementary School (1305 5th Ave. Silvis).

- Davenport City Cemetery will honor veterans with a ceremony on Saturday beginning at 10 am. It will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I (1625 Rockingham Road).

- the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island will hold its annual ceremony at 1 pm Sunday.
Keynote speaker will be Colonel Stephen Marr, commander of the Army Garrison.

- Bettendorf will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, on Sunday, November 11, beginning at 2 pm. Fourteen new names have been added to the memorial since last Veterans Day. Information will also be provided at the ceremony about how to contribute to the Bettendorf Veterans Memorial Endowment Fund through the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.

- Davenport will hold its Veteran's Day Parade on Monday November 12, downtown, beginning at 10 am.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
