Harbinger of the Holidays

A sure sign of the holidays has made its first appearance. Thursday, the TaxSlayer Center in Moline put up this year's Christmas Tree, in the circle outside along River Drive.

The 35-foot tree was donated by John Abbott of Milan, in memory of his mother Helen Abbott who died in 2012.

Once it's decorated, the tree will have about 30,000 lights, and will be lit on Saturday November 17th during the annual Lighting on the Commons ceremony.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
