Construction could begin soon to expand the library in DeWitt. On Tuesday residents of the city overwhelmingly approved a bond referendum for 3.5 million dollars.
According to the county auditor's office, "yes" votes totaled 647 to 139 "no" votes - or 82 per cent to 18 per cent. The referendum only needed 60 per cent to pass.
The expansion will nearly triple the size of the current library, and the average homeowner in DeWitt will pay an additional 16 dollars per year in property taxes, for five years, to pay for the project.
