Arrest Made for Old Murder Case in Muscatine County

Muscatine County Attorney

A woman from Tipton is accused of using a baseball bat to kill a man in southeast Iowa more than 25 years ago.  On Thursday, Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren announced that 55 year old Annette Cahill is charged with first-degree murder for the 1992 death of 22 year old Corey Wieneke. He was found dead on his bedroom floor in rural West Liberty.

A criminal complaint says someone reported last year that Cahill made comments a few weeks after the murder that she was responsible. Officials also say she told another person that a baseball bat had been used to kill Wieneke, something only she could have been certain of at the time. An aluminum bat with blood on it was found a mile from his home.

Bond for Cahill is set at 1 million dollars, and she was scheduled to make her first court appearance Friday morning in Muscatine.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
