Hurricane Recovery Help From Deere

Deere and Company will help re-build homes for victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. Friday it announced a donation of one million dollars for Habitat Hammers Back, a division of Habitat for Humanity that focuses on long-term recovery.

The cash gift is in addition to some previous help, including:

- 500,000 dollars a year from the John Deere Foundation to the Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program,

- contributions totaling 100,000 dollars from employees to the Red Cross, food banks, and other aid groups - matched by the Deere Foundation,

- and the loaning of Deere heavy equipment by the company and dealers to help recovery efforts.

It also will encourage employees to volunteer their time to help hurricane victims.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
