Veterans Day in the Quad Cities

WVIK News

The Quad Cities will celebrate Veterans Day with ceremonies and a parade.

The annual parade will be held in downtown Davenport, beginning at 10 am, sponsored by the city and American Legion Post 26. It'll end with a ceremony in front of the Scott County courthouse.

The National Cemetery on Arsenal Island will hold its annual ceremony at 1 pm, with featured speaker Major General Edward Daly - commanding general of the Army Sustainment Command.

Bettendorf will hold its Veterans Day observance in Veterans Memorial Park at 2 pm.

Other commemorations will be held at the American Legion hall in Milan, Aledo, Galva, and East Moline, plus several schools. The annual ceremony on Hero Street in Silvis begins at 11 am.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
