Davenport Testing Food Trucks Downtown

Credit City of Davenport

The City of Davenport will spend this month testing the success of allowing food trucks to operate downtown. Every Tuesday in September, approved vendors will serve food ranging from pizza to crepes, at specific curb-side locations.

Davenport Budget Management Analyst, Mallory Merritt, says currently, food trucks are prohibited from serving food in the public right-of-way. But after receiving requests from multiple vendors, the city decided to start a pilot program.
She says the pilot program starts on Tuesday. About nine trucks and street vendors have registered to serve food from 11 am to 2 pm, at K Square and 3rd Street.

The following Tuesday, September 13th, vendors will line up on East Second and Iowa Street for dinner hours, from 4 to 9 pm.

Merritt says it's free for vendors to participate in the food truck pilot program. But, they must have a health permit and liability insurance.

After the last Tuesday of the month, the Davenport city council will consider a new ordinance for food truck vendors.
