22nd Annual Rock Island Grand Prix This Weekend

For the 22nd year, the world's largest street karting race will take place in the Quad Cities-- but this time, with a new name. This weekend, downtown Rock Island will host over 200 professional street racers for its annual Grand Prix.

President, Roger Ruthhart, says for the first time this year, the Rock Island Grand Prix has a corporate naming rights sponsor.

About 200 racing teams will come from across the country, as well as Canada, British Columbia, and Bermuda. They'll compete in 17 different races on Saturday and Sunday.

And Ruthhart says there will be plenty of activities in downtown Rock Island this weekend for those who aren't racing-fanatics, including live music and a car show.

The Xtream Rock Island Grand Prix begins Saturday, with heat races starting at 1 pm.
